I started the Frog in the
Moon Studio with a vision for creating quality jewelry unique in
design. Only high quality materials are used - sterling silver, copper,
semi-precious gemstones and minerals. Each piece is designed and
created by hand.
Jewelry designed at the
studio can be purchased either directly from my web site, through
craft and art shows in Minnesota or at specialty boutiques in the SE
Minnesota area - the Nordic Gypsy, in Rochester, Minnesota; the
Cornucopia Art Center in Lanesboro, Minnesota and Local Charm at the
Mall of America in Bloomington, MN.
A Little About Me – Laurie Riekmann
As a child, I always loved collecting rocks and minerals, so it is
natural for me to work with these materials in my medium. The color and
texture of semi-precious gemstones intrigue me…it’s amazing the colors
that Mother Nature has created. When I was in college, I took a geology
course and was convinced that I should become a geologist! However, I
figured there were precious few opportunities in Minnesota for a
geologist to work, so my practical
nature convinced me otherwise and I
majored in psychology!
I didn’t start to create
jewelry until after a Christmas party at my in-laws in 2002. My
mother-in-law had a fun crafty project setup for us to do and we all
created beaded snowflakes. My interest in jewelry and working with
beads literally snowballed from there!
I like to specialize in
creating one of a kind jewelry designs that incorporate hand-crafted
components made out of Precious Metal Clay. I am a Precious Metal Clay
Guild Member and Certified in both Precious Metal Clay (PMC) and Art
Clay Silver (ACS). I received my certification through PMC Connection
in July 2003, Rio Grande in February 2004 and through ACS in January
2004. I have been providing instruction to students on using metal clay
since September 2003 in both private and public classes.
I will often incorporate
other jewelry techniques such as wire working, forging, macramé,
copper etching and metal work in my designs. I love to experiment and
learn new techniques. I truly believe my desire to continually learn
and experiment with new techniques is what sets my jewelry apart from
the ordinary.
I live in Rochester,
Minnesota with my husband, my son, three cats and
a little neon fish! I have rabbits, moles, frogs and other critters
that inhabit my garden, much to my chagrin!
I hope you enjoy my jewelry
as much as I enjoy creating it!
